Teaching Vision
Let me start by saying that when I was in high school, I hated to read and write. It was pure torture for me to have to write a book report! It wasn't until I came to college that I began to read for pleasure and enjoyed explaining my thoughts and feelings through writing. My hope is to reach the students who are just like I was - the ones that hate English class - and show them that reading and writing can be fun, even "cool". I want to show my students that English is unlike any other subject in school. It's not all about facts and figures. There's a lot of freedom to express opinion, due to the fact that there's never just one interpretation of a text. Beyond just the classroom, kids at this age (high school) need positive adult role models to make an impact on their lives. I hope to be a teacher that students will come to for advice - not just about my class, but about their lives.
